Dead WiFi Zones in Your Dubai Office? Here Is How to Fix Them Fast

Why Dubai Offices Have More Dead Zones Than Most

Dubai office buildings are constructed with thick concrete, steel reinforcement, and heavy partition walls. WiFi signal attenuates dramatically through these materials. A single access point that covers a UK office might cover only half a Dubai office of the same floor area.

5-Minute Diagnosis

Step 1: Walk to the dead zone with your phone and open a WiFi analyser app (WiFi Analyzer on Android, Network Analyzer on iOS).

Step 2: Check signal strength. If RSSI is below -70 dBm, coverage is the problem. If RSSI is above -65 dBm but speed is still slow, the problem is capacity — too many users on one AP.

Step 3: Note which AP the phone is connected to. If it is still connected to an AP far away rather than a closer one, roaming configuration needs fixing.

Fix 1: Sticky Client (Most Common in Dubai Offices)

If your device connects to an AP that is far away instead of switching to a closer one, the AP minimum RSSI threshold is not set.

Fix: In your WiFi controller (UniFi, Ruckus SmartZone, Aruba), set minimum RSSI to -70 dBm. Devices weaker than this are disconnected and forced to roam to a closer AP.

Fix 2: AP Placement

APs placed in corners, inside ceiling cavities, or next to concrete pillars create coverage holes.

Fix: Relocate APs to be ceiling-mounted, central to the user cluster, away from concrete columns. Aim for 15 metres between APs in typical Dubai office construction.

Fix 3: Add a Fill AP

If the dead zone is a meeting room, breakout area, or corridor far from existing APs, add one fill access point.

Cost: One UniFi U6 Lite or Ruckus R350: AED 600 to 1,500. Plus installation: AED 500 to 800.

Fix 4: 2.4GHz vs 5GHz

2.4GHz penetrates walls better but carries far less capacity. If your devices are stuck on 2.4GHz, enabling band steering pushes them to 5GHz when coverage allows.

When to Call a Professional

If more than 20% of your office area has RSSI below -70 dBm after basic tuning, you need a full WiFi site survey. This uses a calibrated survey tool to map signal throughout the floor plan and design the optimal AP placement — not guesswork.

Cost: AED 2,000 to 5,000 for a professional site survey and remediation plan.
