Structured Cabling in Dubai: Cat6 vs Cat6A vs Fiber — Which Does Your Office Need?

SAS IT Team19 April 20267 min read

Why Getting Cabling Right Matters

Cabling stays in your walls for 15 to 20+ years. Getting it wrong means expensive, disruptive recabling. Here is what to install.

The Three Options

Cat6: 1Gbps up to 100m. AED 150 to 250 per point installed. Best for general office use.

Cat6A (Recommended): 10Gbps up to 100m. AED 220 to 350 per point installed. Recommended for all new Dubai office installations in 2026.

Fiber Optic: 10Gbps to 100Gbps. AED 500 to 2,000 per run. Use for backbone between floors and buildings, not for end-point connections.

Recommended Architecture

Small office (1 floor, up to 30 users): Cat6A horizontal cabling to all desks and APs.

Medium office (multiple floors, 30 to 100 users): Cat6A per floor + multi-mode fiber backbone between floors.

Enterprise / multi-building: Single-mode fiber between buildings + Cat6A per floor.
